Kids Basket Weaving Workshop at Crowley’s Ridge State Park

Crafty kids are invited out to Crowley’s Ridge State Park to participate in a basket weaving workshop just for them.  The workshop will be held on Saturday, August 30th from 10:00 am to noon at Pavilion 2.  During this workshop, children will learn about the history of basket making, examine different types of weaving and twining, and make their own basket out of real basketry materials.  This workshop is recommended for children ages 7 years old and up, but younger children may also be able to complete the project with parental assistance.  The fee for the workshop is $6 per child.  Accompanying adults may attend for free.  Space is limited and registration is required.  For more information or to register, call (870)573-6351 or email the park interpreter at elizabeth.bittner@arkansas.gov

This activity is part of Legacy Weekend at Arkansas State Parks.  This weekend celebrates those who worked to make the Arkansas State Park system a reality and reminds Arkansans of the many opportunities for recreation and learning at their local state parks.  In addition to the workshop, other activities will be offered throughout the Labor Day weekend including a Dutch oven demonstration and nature programs and games on the beach.  A full schedule of events can be found at www.ArkansasStateParks.com/CrowleysRidge.  Crowley’s Ridge State Park is located on Highway 168N in Walcott; from Paragould, travel west on Highway 412, and from Jonesboro travel north on Highway 141 to reach the park.
